These terms apply when you create, join or run a group on Bildfie: chamas, savings and investment groups, welfare groups, merry-go-rounds and fundraising campaigns (harambees). They are part of our Terms of Service and the Payments & Wallet Terms.
1.Groups and their rules
- A group sets its own rules on Bildfie: dues, funds, fines, meetings, rotation order and who approves what. The rules apply to every member who joins.
- Officials (such as chair, secretary and treasurer) are chosen by the group and must act honestly for all members.
- Bildfie provides the tools and keeps the records. Bildfie is not a member, official or manager of any group, and does not give financial advice.
- Groups that take deposits from the public, lend money as a business or run investment schemes may need a licence or registration under the law. That is the group's responsibility.
2.Group money
- Money held by Bildfie: dues and contributions paid through Bildfie are held for the group in its funds. Money leaves a fund only after one official requests it and another approves it (maker-checker).
- Cash and outside money: the group may record money handled outside Bildfie, such as cash at a meeting. Such money is not held or protected by Bildfie; records of it are only as accurate as what officials enter.
- Every member can see the group's ledger and their own dues and standing, as the rules allow.
3.Merry-go-rounds (rotations)
- The group sets the rotation order. Once a cycle starts, the order is locked.
- Each payout is approved by the chair and paid to the member's wallet, or to M-Pesa where that is switched on.
- Members who do not pay on time are dealt with under the group's rules.
4.Fundraisers (harambees)
- A campaign must be for a real and lawful purpose, described truthfully, with a goal and an end date.
- Anyone signed in can give or pledge. Gifts and pledges are shown on the live tally as the campaign allows.
- Cash collected in person must be confirmed by two officials before it is recorded.
- Organisers must use the money for the stated purpose and keep supporters updated.
- Gifts are voluntary and are not refunded once given, unless the campaign is found to be fraudulent or the law requires it.
- Public fundraising may need a permit where you are; that is the organiser's responsibility.
5.Disputes in a group
Disagreements between members are settled under the group's own rules and constitution. Bildfie can share the group's records with its officials or, when the law requires, with authorities, and may freeze a group's funds held on Bildfie if there are signs of fraud.
